The toner printer has been a part of the design industry for decades now. While no one can deny that it serves its purpose, today, it is not the optimal solution. How so? Nowadays, a hardware device called the plotter printer is taking over.

The main difference is that a plotter printer uses pens, pencils, and markers to ensure intricate and precise designs. Investing in such a machine will give you more room to be creative without as much effort.

We looked at the market to find reliable machines and created a list of the best plotter printer offers. Let’s take a look.

1. Silhouette America Cameo 4

  • Product Specifications: Dimension: 22.44" x 7.68" x 6.69"....

If you are running a professional graphic design business and you want the best out there, you should go with the Cameo 4. It has been significantly improved from the Cameo 3 and is the optimal choice when it comes to plotter printers. The brand that stands behind it ensures a one-year warranty, as well as lifetime support. Considering the innovative features and reliable performance, it is worth every dollar!

Review

The first thing that we want to talk about is its compact design. Coming in five colors, with white being the most popular, it is suitable for heavy-duty use. There are a number of upgrades that make it better than the previous model.

It comes with a downforce of 5,000gf. Also, the intricate dual carriage is there to ensure optimal precision and delicate cutting. Also, you can expect it to run at an unparalleled speed, considering the updated auto-blades and dual motor system. As for the blades, you are going to be happy to work with the AutoBlade 2 that is featured in this machine. Still, we weren’t satisfied to notice that a Kraft blade has to be bought separately.

Additionally, even if you go the extra mile and get that accessory, it apparently doesn’t offer optimal performance. However, the AutoBlade is made out of tungsten alloy and can work with the most detailed cut settings. Adjusting the blade is done via the Silhouette software. You can also invest in a punch tool that is made out of tungsten carbide. This is a good idea if your business focuses on heat transfer projects.

The Cameo 4 machine comes with a built-in roll feeder and thus doesn’t ask for an additional cut mat. It features optimal settings, with the maximum width being 12 inches. Thus, the roll feeder can support different vinyl formats and makes this cameo a superb choice for professional use. There is also a built-in cross cutter that serves its purpose as a rotary cutter. It should ensure clean and straight lines.

Of course, this offer includes a basic subscription to Silhouette Cameo 4 Software. It also includes over 10,000 downloadable designs that come for a price or free of charge. This machine weighs just below 14 pounds and is quite portable if you are always on the go. The best thing about it is that the interface is user-friendly. Thus, even if you are a beginner, mastering this machine shouldn’t take long.

We have to say that it makes a particular noise when it comes to cutting edges, though. Apart from the couple of flaws mentioned above, there is not much to say against it. Compact, powerful, and fast, the Cameo 4 is an investment that you will not regret!

Pros:

  • Bluetooth connection
  • Built-in roll feeder
  • 5000gf downforce
  • Extremely precise
  • Immense speed

Cons:

  • Lacking a Kraft blade
  • A bit noisy

  • Ultra compact wide format A3 plus printer 30 percent smaller than...

If you have a more flexible budget and want a plotter printer that supports millions of colors, this is a perfect choice. Coming from a reputable brand and featuring a wireless connection, it offers HD printing. Investing in a couple of these will get your graphic design business running in an instant!

Review

Whether you will be printing out regular photos or vinyl designs, this device has got you covered. It is a wide-format printer that supports formats up to 13 x 19 inches. What we are most happy about is the 6-color HD inks that support millions of different shades and colors. One of the best things about it has to be the 50-sheet tray that is set at the rear.

There is also a 200-sheet tray that is set at the front. Both allow two-sided printing and work together to ensure the fastest solution to your printing needs. While a bit bulkier than the Silhouette Cameo 4, it weighs 18.7 pounds. This is still considered to be on the lighter side. What you are getting in this offer is the printer, a cleaning sheet, four Claria Photo HD cartridges, and an installation CD.

Keep in mind that, while this printer is highlighted by an intricate design, it does have one disadvantage. It uses only Epson HD cartridges. Depending on whether you use it on an everyday basis or not, the maintenance can also get quite expensive. Additionally, a touch screen interface would make this printer more user-friendly. Still, no one can deny that it offers professional-grade printing performance.

Pros:

  • HD cartridges
  • Accommodates up to 250 sheets
  • Extremely precise
  • Excellent speed
  • Wireless connectivity

Cons:

  • Lacking a touch screen interface
  • High Price

3. HP Designjet T100 24-in Printer

HP DesignJet T100 Large Format Compact Wireless Plotter...
  • Ideal for: Architects, engineering, and construction...
  • Media Sizes: 8.3 to 24-in wide sheets; 11 to 24-in rolls.
  • Media Handling: Sheet feed; roll feed; input tray; automatic...
  • Print in-house with the world's smallest large-format plotters...
  • Connectivity: Fast Ethernet (100Base-T); Hi-Speed USB 2.0; Wi-Fi....

Last but not least on our list of the best plotter printers is this high-tech device. Right from the start, we can tell you that it is not the best choice for private use, considering the bulky design. Still, if you are working at an office and need a high-performing printer, it is the ideal choice!

Review

This product measures 44.9 x 24.4 x 16.3 inches and weighs above 65 pounds. It is significantly bulkier than the aforementioned two products. Still, the built-in stand may allow you to save some space. Talking about the overall quality, we can’t say much against it. The Designjet technology ensures that this printer can be used for heavy-duty purposes. Additionally, you are not limited to just a single type of cartridges.

We love the fact that this printer is controlled via an HP Smart App and that it has a WiFi connection. It supports formats up to 24 inches and is quite easy to use. However, if you are a Mac user, you better search elsewhere. Overall, there are a few features that ask for an update. Other than that, it is one of the top plotter printers when it comes to speed, power, and reliability.

Pros:

  • Great for saving space
  • Uses WiFi and HP Smart App
  • Very user-friendly
  • Reliable and fast

Cons:

  • Bulkier than similar products
  • Not for Mac users

final Verdict

At the end of the day, it all comes down to whether you need a plotter printer for personal or professional use. If it is the first scenario, then it can’t get much better than the Silhouette Cameo 4. This intricate printer offers high-performance and precise cutting. On the other hand, the Epson XP-15000 is the ideal choice if you are running a graphics design business.
