Whether you live somewhere where summer is always present or dread those few days every year when it seems like you can't escape the heat, you need the best tower fan to get through the heat without melting into the couch.

While oscillating fans, outdoor ceiling fans, air conditioners, and traditional ceiling fans all have their uses, the best tower fans are the best at offering relief from the heat without taking up a lot of room. In addition, they are sleek, modern, and effortlessly stylish, meaning they can be mistaken for art pieces. But what is a tower fan?

What is a Tower Fan?

A tower fan is a tall tower-shaped fan placed on an oscillating base. The device has a tiny inlet on its casing that allows air to get pulled in. The gadget blows air out at a 90-degree angle which, together with the fan's height, helps circulate the cold air over a larger area.

A tower fan pulls air from behind and pushes it forward to create a draft. Then, the air is rotated before being pushed to the front of the unit. It is also quieter than box fans which helps you get a comfortable yet cool night's sleep with no noise interruptions.

However, choosing the ideal tower fan can be challenging because of the wide range of colors, sizes, and brands available. Luckily, now that we have reviewed the best tower fans for you to select from, making the ideal choice is not as difficult. Dive in!

  • Voltage: 100120

Honeywell HYF290B is a crane oscillating tower fan we recommend if you want a model that fits any decor without taking up a lot of space. The cooling tower fan comes with an easy-to-read LCD that gives me plenty of information, like the current date, time, fan settings, and current temperature of the room.

The tall tower fan operates silently, making me forget it's in the room. But, surprisingly, it includes a heavy-duty motor that can move up to 2500 cubic feet of air a minute.

Unlike other tower fans we have recommended in this list, I found this tower fan lightweight enough to be moved from one room to another but heavy enough to stay stable.

Lastly, the 6-inch wide compact fan has an automatic oscillation with three-speed settings, promoting airflow throughout the room to make the spaces more comfortable. Also, the crane model comes with a remote control, an automatic off-timer which I could set for four or eight hours, and a one-year limited warranty for my piece of mind.

Pros:

  • 8-speed settings from power cool to sleep
  • Slim and modern design1, 2, 4, and 8-hour auto-shutoff timer function
  • It comes with an easy-to-control panel
  • It has a remote control
  • Oscillation function

Cons:

  • Lacks angle adjustment
  • Some fan speed settings are not powerful enough

  • Set your fan to automatically turn off after a period of use...
  • Size/Height: 13"L x 13"W x 42.5"H, Weight:15.5 lbs

Lasko T42951 is a vertically designed fan and a favorite for many people since it doesn't take up too much space. In addition, its compact stature makes it one of the best fans for your bedroom space. For the fan's power, I got efficient cooling power thanks to the three-speed settings ranging from low to medium to high to create decent airflow in different rooms.

We also noticed that the Lasko fan has an optional oscillation with an energy-efficient shut-off and remote control attached to the tower's back. This model includes a timer for up to 7.5 hours, a nearly 4-foot height, a curved design, and a night setting that controls the fan speed and dims the fan's control lights.

The Lasko tower fan also offers a faux-wood grain and gray combination option. However, the biggest con we experienced is the short power cord, limiting where it's placed, making it not the best option for a large room.

Pros:

  • Wide oscillation
  • Programmable auto-off timer
  • Three fan speeds which a remote control
  • It has a control panel
  • Safe and energy efficient
  • Nighttime setting

Cons:

  • The model is not that durable.
  • It comes with a short power cord

If you are like me and prefer devices with extra features, this Seville Classic UltraSlimline will impress you since it has more features than most tower fans in the same price range. For example, some include a 95-degree oscillation range, which helps to circulate air efficiently.

The model is stylish and has an ultraslim footprint to match the ultraquiet output that will ensure discreteness, and I will barely notice its presence. Instead, I only felt its cooling effect, making it suitable for bedrooms, offices, or any room that could use some breeze.

In addition, there are four separate settings you can choose from, including High, Medium, Low, and an Eco setting. The quiet tower fan can be regulated with an LCD remote control and has a timer feature.

I also liked the simple push-button control panel with clearly marked and large style buttons making the quiet tower fan easy to set up and operate. The oscillating fan is the best choice if you also want a tight-budget tower fan to save space and money.

Pros:

  • Four-speed settings
  • Maximum airflow, minimum noise
  • User-friendly remote control
  • Quiet operation with calming noises
  • Easy to read control panel

Cons:

  • The quality is not the best

Tower fans are frequently criticized for their annoying beeping sound when their settings are changed, which might disturb a partner or children trying to sleep in the same room. However, we recommend the Dreo Tower Fan with a remote because it solves the problem with the mute setting that turns off any beeps.

Additionally, you won't worry about bright lights because the Dreo Tower fan has a display screen that dims automatically after adjusting its settings. A sleep mode also prevents the fan from lighting up a corner of your room while you sleep by turning the LED display off after five seconds.

We loved the settings we could choose, including the option that increases the fan's power as a room gets hotter. Moreover, a timer may run up to 12 hours if you want to schedule your cooling.

This fan will keep you cool thanks to its six-speed settings and 90-degree oscillation ability. Due to its secure bladeless design, it's also a fantastic choice for families with children and pets.

Pros:

  • It has a self-dimming display
  • It has a mute option
  • It is enough to provide cool air for a large room
  • Six-speed settings

Cons:

  • Limited oscillation

Dyson Cool AM07 works perfectly if you want great coverage as it oscillates up to 80 degrees wide. In addition, I found the quiet tower fan easy to clean with no dust build-up, no matter how long the fan works.

I could control the tower fan with remote control from a distance, and it features a magnetized dock that ensures I don't lose the remote on the sofa's side. But, lastly, the price is higher for the power it produces, and it can get too noisy.

Pros:

  • Magnetized remote dock
  • Bladeless tower fan
  • Suitable for children and pets10% less power consumption
  • Great timer functionality
  • Oscillation control
  • It comes with a remote control

Cons:

  • It can get somehow noisy over level 6

How Do You Maintain Your Tower Fan?

Your tower fan should be maintained in good working condition yearly. Also, adhere to the manufacturer's recommendations and never let the motor of a tower fan contact anything wet.

a). Daily Maintenance

Wipe the outside of your tower fan with a dry fan to keep the fan grills free of debris and dust, and this is super important, especially if you live in a humid area. When debris or dust builds up on the fan grill, it could cause airflow problems and eventually destroy the fan's motor.

b). Weekly Maintenance

Clean the vents with a vacuum cleaner using the soft brush attachment to remove the hair, dust, oils, and debris from the narrow vents. This helps to keep their air clean and flowing freely.

c). Monthly Maintenance

Many of these fans come with a filter that needs to be cleaned regularly. To do this, unscrew the air filter hatch and wash the filter with plain water or vacuum it. A few bursts of compressed air can easily remove clumps of debris and dust.

Factors to Consider Before Purchasing the Best Tower Fan

The best tower fans have distinctive features that you should consider when shopping. Even though you are shopping around for an inexpensive tower fan, there are several things you cannot go without. They include:

1. Size

Even if most tower fans are small enough to fit almost anywhere, it's still crucial to measure the available space in your room for one.

2. Types of Tower Fans

Tower fans come in different models, from slim tower fans that rotate on a base to cylinders on sticks for outdoor and indoor cooling. They include:

a). Bladeless Tower Fans

This tower fan works by blowing air from a ring with no external blades. Instead, it has hidden vanes in the pedestal that blows thin, high-velocity air streams through a continuous opening across an elongated doughnut-shaped hole or a tube.

A bladeless tower fan is suitable for anyone looking for a model with an attractive design and is easier to clean than the ones with vents.

b). Pedestal Tower Fans

These are sturdy yet sleek types of fans on a pole with a wide base, and they only blow air from the top of the fan. Pedestal fans are suitable for placing behind furniture as a floor fan or aiming air above a bed or another platform.

c). Oscillating Tower Fans

These tower fans work by rotating back and forth and cool over a larger area than fixed or direct flow fans that blow over a specific area. They can also act as a DIY air purifier since they keep your air clean and cool.

d). Outdoor Tower Fans

These are wet-rated or damp fans designed for outdoor areas where moisture, like laundry rooms or bathrooms, will easily build up. Outdoor fans withstand humidity well and come with a uniquely designed motor housing that protects the wiring.

3. Remote Controls

Not everyone requires a remote control, although it might be a useful addition. For example, a remote is probably unnecessary if you intend to keep your fan within arm's reach (for the most part) because it will most likely be stored in a drawer and rarely used.

But purchasing a fan with a remote is the smart choice if you want to put it in a big area where you'll want to be able to operate it from a distance.

The addition of a remote control adds convenience, making it possible to use the fan without getting off the sofa or out of bed.

This is beneficial if you fall asleep with the fan on at night because you can alter its settings without getting out of bed.

4. Fan Modes & Speed Settings

Your fan's speed settings are yet another vital feature. You can adjust these controls to get the ideal level of airflow for your comfort. They control the air that circulates to cool your space. Low settings keep the room cool but operate quietly, while high speeds make the space cooler but may be excessively loud, especially if you're attempting to watch TV or fall asleep.

Depending on the brand, speed settings typically range from 3 to 7, although this varies. A fan with more speed choices is preferable for your needs if you find it difficult to get the Goldilocks level with standard tower fans featuring three-speed settings.

5. Oscillating Function

Oscillation is essential if you want the most effective and wide air circulation. Here, the fan rotates independently, and you may turn it on or off according to your mood. Oscillation is measured in degrees, with 75, 80, and 90 being the most common values, but it varies between brands.

However, you should be aware of the impact oscillation can have, especially if you don't assemble the fan. It's possible to hear a clicking, brushing, or buzzing sound, affecting your comfort, focus, and ability to fall and stay asleep.

6. Display

An LCD display is important even for a basic tower fan because it shows all the current functions. In addition, it's easy to use since you know which functions are currently active, and you can easily track all the changes you make.

7. Automatic Shut-Off Timer

Timers are a good feature for your fan since they allow you to save energy without getting up from the couch or bed in the middle of the night to turn them off. This functionality will also prevent you from being woken by the still operating fan.

Different manufacturers offer a wide variety of timer options, which vary from 1-hour increments to 8 hours and even longer in certain situations. Some models allow you to set the timer from the comfort of your bed using the remote, while others need you to adjust it on the control panel physically.

Conclusion on the Best Tower Fan

So, are tower fans effective? Most definitely! However, you must choose one wisely. Make sure your fan speeds and modes are appropriate before selecting the ideal tower fan. It would be best to consider the noise they generate because it could keep you awake at night or bother you throughout the day.
